This is a guide to Google My Maps and Live Local

Here's a map I made of Wellington

The map is interactive - click on the placemarks and see.

You can create and save Google Maps if you have a Google account. If you don't have one sign up here. To add digital photographs you need to upload them to Flickr first. Again you need to create an account first.

Once you have logged in to Google Maps, select the My Maps tab to start creating your map. It looks like this:external image googmaps.jpg

Use the tools to create your own annotated map:

To add photos and format the placemarks, click on Rich Text. You can add the photos by uploading them to Flickr first, then copying the URL of photo into the placemark.

Once you have completed your map, you can share the results by using these links:

Embed a My Map in your Wiki page by following the instructions here.

If you want to see detail from the air, it's probably better to use Live Local. Start here or click the picture below

Live Local is from Microsoft so you can use your Windows Live ID (same as MSN) to log in. You won't be able to log in at school though!.
As with Google Maps, you can also create your own maps and share them.
